My two keets are now two weeks old and seem to he doing well. I'm brooding them in a 100 gallon horse trough with a heat lamp on one end. Lately, though, they are spending all their time on the opposite end of the trough as the lamp.  Is it ok to remove the lamp, or should I keep it there for a while in case they decide to use it again?  How long do they need a lamp?

I don't know anything about keets except that I've got one in the incubator.  I think it's going to depend a lot on where you are and how warm it is there.  I take chickens off the lamp by 5 weeks and quail by 3 weeks, weather dependent.  I'm also pretty aggressive in encouraging them to feather out.  My guess is that, unless it's hot where you are, you should leave it on for a while yet.

You should also check the temp under the lamp if you haven't already.  It may be too hot.

Raise the lamp a little. They are trying to get away from the heat. Check every few hours.  Continue to raise it a little each time as long as they continue to try to escape it. When they spread out more, stop raising it.
