I'm getting a late start this year, but would like to plant some lettuce from seed before the month is out.

What varieties will grow well with such a late start in the Connecticut area?

i generally plant a mixed crop of salad greens, mesclun or mixed lettuces...I love the bountiful garden lettuce mixes and mescluns..they also have a kitchen sink mix..

Hi Andrew, I just planted my first lettuce this year so I'm no expert, but look for summer varieties - they are apparently more heat tolerant. It's a good idea to plant lettuce where another crop will shade it part of the time, so consider planting it next to a trellised plant.
