Hi folks, I am new to goat ownership, had two Nigerians for about 4 months now. I was told they had their CD&T shots and so I am now wondering, what is a proper regimen for Nigerians when it comes to deworming, vaccines, etc. Like how often, what to administer, etc. I am in Northern California (and yes, my chest hurts).
If there is already a thread that covers this, I apologize, I couldn't find it!
I have never given my dogs or goats any medicine, much less chicken or goats. So I dont think that you have to give them any.
I do think that you should leave enough herbs in there pasture so that they can self-medicate.
When it comes to animals, you really want to focus on their food/feed/pasture and also their shelter. Once you start medicating your animals on a regular and then you starting drinking the milk or eating the eggs/meat from that animal, one is only a short step away from factory farmed meat. prevention is what you are aiming for. And really I would cull animals in your herd that start getting sick because it is too hot/cold/humid/etc. That just means that they are not a god fit to that area. I fell similarly about trees. imagine someone in Miami adding an AC to their "greenhouse" to give a hazelnut shrub enough chill hours. Instead I think they should plant another tree. But if someone wants to keep a specific cultivar/species for say sentimental reason, and it is more of a pet/hobby, I think that is also fine too.
Iterations are fine, we don't have to be perfect

I'm not eating my goats. I have them for lawn mowing and eventually I will breed them and *maybe* milk them. I am only concerned with what needs to be done for their longevity and health. If nothing is what I need to do, then so be it, but I just want to be educated by folks who keep this breed in similar areas. I understand the climate and environment can play a large role in the parasite loads they are exposed to, etc. So I just want to make sure I am on the up and up.
On Permies we have an "organic or better" policy. We don't discuss chemical wormers here. There are many good organic strategies to deal with parasites though, so if you're interested in this, then you've come to the right place.
I don't have Nigerian Dwarfs, but a few people here do. I have a mixture of Saanen, Toggenburg, and Nubian, they don't get any vaccines or medications at all and they are healthy, but I make sure they have access to minerals (especially the ones deficient in the soil here), and that they're not forced to gobble grass right down to the soil, as this is what causes a lot of internal parasites - goats ideally like to eat grass 6 inches or higher, as well as 'weeds' and woody browse.
