gathering what falls from the trees

not being 20 anymore I'm always thinking of ways to save labor effort.
as the leaves and nuts begin to fall from the tress this autumn I've bee thinking of using some old tarps to collect the leaves and nuts to gather the easily for compost and maybe an attempt at walnut oil pressing.
any suggestions?

Not sure about using a tarp,
would it let water seep through?

maybe there is a way to create a sort of grill / grid which is a bit off the ground
palets won't work i think, since the nuts would fall through and the planks are too wide...

but it would help dry the leaves and nuts so you can easily sort them and use the dry(er) nuts.

you’ll still be digging through the leaves looking for the nuts once you pick up the tarp or sheet or what have you.

if you’re hoping to do walnut oil for culinary purposes you’ll probably want to dehull and cure/dry the nuts pretty quickly when they come off the tree (while the hull has some give but is still green) . what i’ve seen is that the longer they stay in the hull, wet, the more bitter stuff gets into the nuts. if they get rained on and they’re gathered together in a pile with leaves it can happen pretty quick. not that oil pressed from the more bitter nuts is no good, but you can definitely tell.
