Hi folks,

I've been interested in permaculture for years, although not in a position to do more than apply the principles to my garden. But now I'm writing fiction and am including lots of permaculture ideas to my stories, including the use of composting toilets and grey water management in cities. My current project includes an isolated settlement where rocket stoves and mass heaters are used. I'm sure I'll have other questions, but I'm wondering how often they need to be cleaned out.

The books are set in a fantasy world where the gods are present, which has changed a number of things about how people go about their lives. I hope I can get some of my questions answered here.

Thanks

Hi S;
Provided good quality dry wood is used.
A well built J tube with a piped mass.
Will need the burn tunnel and feed tube cleaned  maybe every other week.
The mass pipes and transition area, only once a season.

A J  tube or batch box into a bell. Not for several years.

A batch box firebox can be cleaned every week.

The way I see it, if gods were present in my fantasy world then the rmh's would never need to be cleaned!

In case this is not what your dream looks like though, refer to Thomas's post.

Two other things I would add is type of wood your burning (some woods naturally produce more ash than others) and how much your burning in a day.

PS... added your topic to the writing forum as well S.

Heroic work plunger man. Please allow me to introduce you to this tiny ad:
