Assuming you're American/ Canadian, the natural state of our forests is supposed to have a sense layer of natural topsoil, much of which was destroyed by invasive earthworms. I don't believe Ramps necessarily need that, like some plants, but, yeah, topsoil (even human-supplied) & shade together can't hurt it.
You're not the only one to notice this sort of thing. In Ohio last year, a lot of plants became confused by the weather & began trying to bud early. Especially
trees, like Sumac, Maple & Mulberry. Then, winter came back for too long & forced them back into dormancy again. Long story short, they took longer to come back in the second time & weren't legitimately leading until close to June. They tried to do it again this year too.
