I am growing 4 different varieties of medlar. Now i am trying to grow them from seeds also and i am finding that this is really difficult. I stratified seeds for 6 months and then i got impatient. I scarified them and a few weeks later i cracked them open with pliers. Only 8 out of 48 seeds had pips in them. They all sank to the bottom in a glass of
water so with medlar seeds this test doesn't tell you whether they are viable or not. Medlar seeds look a bit like tiny peach seeds and inside they have pips with a curved tip, almost looking like an
apple seed with a strange shape. My pips are now still stratifying in the fridge and i can confirm that they are not easy to get to germinate.
