Anyone on here have storm water management experience. Any insights into why the attached design is good and or poor. Thanks!

I don't have storm drain management skills though I have dealt with water runoff.

That storm drain looks to me like it has been placed in the exact location where it would be best.

Did you plant all those flowers?  Or was this a community project?

- Since it is between two parts of a highway the plantings are deliberately low
- whole area is mulched to keep the plants content
- whole are is sloped away from the pavements for road safety
- stormwater entry point is positioned to quickly get water away from the surface.
- accordingly there will be no high grass obscuring the view between the lanes, less maintenance in the way of grass cutting.
Overall a very good design

Well said!

To say anymore would require photos of the bridge and inside the Pits!

Tangent comments!

Many road areas such as this are great examples of planting other than grass, I think that reducing grass on these locations is a great idea because of cost to maintain as well as safety in regards to the people maintaining it.

In addition a new trend of using gap filling materials into the gaps between the edge of kerb and the road pavement as well as between concrete paths and the back of the kerb, which prevents seeds from growing in the gaps and then reduces the amount of maintenance and reduces people using herbicides!
Is a good trend for smart councils!

One critic of the design is in the top right hand corner I wish a small garden was placed to reduce the run off pollution!

The other is the a bit much to mention and it is the animal ecology of the design!

But maybe these locations will make for great locations to throw seed bombs into so that they grow plants that are not grass!

Great topic!

The use of gorilla tactics with seed bombs has merit
As for animals that is always an issue for road designers, of which I was one.
Community pressure and input helps with local roadworks.

I've read about this kind of thing at the checkout counter. That's where I met this tiny ad:
montana community seeking 20 people who are gardeners or want to be gardeners
