This seems like a pretty good solution for a number of things.
(Though probably not for hosting a webserver like he's doing... paid hosting makes more sense for that.)

Actually, weird as it may sound, I enjoyed that. I don't think it's practical for most, but it's a pretty cool nerd fest.

I could have done without the product placement etc. but that's show biz, and everyone's trying to earn a buck or at least break even. So it is what it is.

Distilling it down, it's a lot of proposals, but they all rely on grid networks. These tend to crash when the going gets tough. I think the amateur radio community has much more to offer in emergencies; but that's my 2c.
