Hello,
I live at a Bhakti Yoga temple (or Hare Krishna temple) in Brooklyn, NY. We have a really big roof top that will be converted into an amazing space. In this way it
brings this to the city but also for the residents who do service full time. They say that a yogi's favorite activity is a walk in nature. So, we can't always take time
away to go for a forest but we can create a living nature space on our roof.
My plan is to make it in phases. First paint the walls with a clay or lime paint, add a covered purgula so that we can have a space to dine and read, a greenhouse for
all of the Tulsi plants that we care for, a raised platform for a belltent to do kirtan in with groups, a fire pit area, and more.....then add the plants. We already have heaps of raised beds but these can be moved around. There is a resident archatect who can help with drawings and others with resources. We do have a group of volunteers and the possibility for more in the future to help with various things.
I'm looking for people that either live nearby or would like to come and spend 1 - 3 months living at the temple in the men's ashram to help with this service.
You must be willing to follow no drinking, drugs, illicity sex, and be interested in coming to the temple for kirtans (mantra meditations) and different programs. The men's ashram is very nice and usually has around 20 - 30 monks. It's a great opportunity. I'm looking for someone with experience in permaculture - in designing beds and areas, choosing plants, etc. Someone mentally stable. You would be doing so many hours of service per week in exchange for creating an amazing space, vegan / vegetarian meals, classes from people allover the world, amazing kirtans, attending programs, etc.
