Palm tree mulch pits, what to plant in and around

I’d like to make a deglet nour Palm tree mulch pit (much like Geoff Lawton’s banana circles) and am wondering what kind of guild plants go well with date palms? Anybody have success with these in a circle formation already? Thanks for any and all advice
