I let a bunch of leeks go to seed this year because I love the flowers. It's not the first time I've done it. For the last month the flowers are doing something I've never seen on a leek before. The seeds are sprouting from the flower head! They look a little like what my Egyptian Walking Onions do, only tiny.
Has anyone else observed this?
Another thing I'm seeing is that my leeks are sprouting from the base, like
perennial leeks, only they aren't perennial leeks. Well, I guess they are, since they aren't dying but are spreading at the base. But I've only heard about perennial leeks that don't produce many viable seeds, if any. These are very viable seeds- they aren't even waiting to be planted in the ground! 😆
