(Well, my recent musings on 1) teaching kids Permaculture, and 2) those 8 forms of Capital that Permaculturists identify have now intersected, which has led me to this thought:)
Perhaps the best hypothetical education for a child would be one that helps children to access and grow all of the 8 Forms of Capital from the earliest days...
Intellectual knowledge of essential topics and their interconnections
Experiential field trips and science experiments, apprenticeships and field observations
Cultural songs, poems, stories, folk tales and fairy stories, novels, literature
Social good manners, relationships with peers, relationships with faculty, staff, volunteers, and maintenance crew
Spiritual presumably being raised in the parents' religion
Living a garden plot for each child, with seeds to start and plants to tend
Financial a piggy bank and/or savings account, with small allowance or chores to earn money
Material toys, games, books, art materials, clothes, etc. and instructions on how to properly take care of them
While homeschooling this next semester, I will be paying particular attention to teaching about the Forms of Capital I seem to have been most neglecting!
