Looking for the ultimate authority (book,pdf) on (soil)Ecology

Hi There,
I am looking for THE ULTIMATE authority on (soil)ecology. A (book) source which explains detailed but well structured how ecology  and soil ecology is built up.
Shedding light on the basic principles, energy, nutrient flows, actors and passive forces and more. I am firstly interested in the overview, to ensure i am not overlooking parts. But secondly more scientific and detailed information is very welcome.

Is there (offcourse there is) a (book)source that fits this description? Something that is a great foundation for understanding how ecological systems in and above ground work.

Teun, two of my favorite resources are A Soil Owner's Manual by Jon Stika and Soil Biology Primer by Dr. Elaine Ingham.

If you haven't read it yet I would also recommend the One Straw Revolution as a reminder that we can't control or understand everything about nature. I wish I'd read it twenty years ago. When I did, I found it liberating.
Although I do also like the technical side.....

It's probably dated now but I really got a lot out of "Why Big Fierce Animals are Rare" by Paul Colinvaux. ( https://press.princeton.edu/books/paperback/9780691178080/why-big-fierce-animals-are-rare )  I think he also wrote a well-regarded textbook?
