Unidentified tree with fungi discovered in eastern North Carolina. Nature's method of Hugelkulture, perhaps? I took this picture when I was deep in the forest, near a stream.

I love mycelium. All I know is that Little Brown Mushrooms on logs are not edible and poisonous, therefore it is probably nature's function for taking the toxins out of the wood to break it down further.
