permies and/or cob makers in Douglas Country OR

This is a general inquiry regarding the Permie and Cob Home "climate" in Douglas County. I would appreciate any experience you could reflect on in general dealings with the local authorities and perhaps some general suggestions.

I am a Douglas County Permie, but as of yet, I do not have much cob experience. However, you are in luck! Ianto Evans, author of "The Hand Sculpted House", lives in Coquille. Attending a workshop would probably be the best idea. You can go to his website www.cobcottage.com to view all of the workshops. If you don't have the time or money, you may be able to call and arrange a time to visit with Ianto. I have wanted to make it out to Cob Cottage for a few years now, but it hasn't happened. Maybe this is the year!

Is the weather any warmer and brighter down there versus the Portland area?

I too am interested in breaking ground soon, if the area, people and regulations are right.

We also have not broken ground yet, or located the spot, but we do intend to very soon. Douglas County is our intended location but I am hearing that codes and regulations differ from county to county in OR.

Coquille is on our horizon, we do seek to visit the Cob Cottage, timing is so important due to Ianto's commitments though.

Therefore we are still looking for someone who has experience in cobbing or similar in Douglas County to help in our prep.
