So, I am thinking of starting a CSA and I could find no free CSA managing programs (Perhaps someone has found differently? ) so I therefore decided to make my own. I used LibreOffice (aka OpenOffice) a free Excel-like program. The idea is (upon completion) to have the program free to small CSAs (large CSAs that employ slave-like labor will be discouraged by certain built-in limitations of the program). The workbook is almost done and can run on any computer that can do basic spreadsheets. At this point I'm looking for some things I might have missed that would definately
be nice to have in such a program. I hope to release a "duct-tape" together beta version next week for those interested in "product testing". My goal is not to make a
profit - I think making money off of small-time farmers ruins my ultimate goal. My goal is to encourage small farming, so please let me know, if you can anything you would like to see in a CSA manager.
So far it takes a harvest schedule you input and outputs a planting schedule, total seed cost, seed quantities by species. Species vary from winter-spring-fall-summer. Winter assumes mild weather or some sort of large, high intensity hoop-house environment and storage bins from late fall production.
Also, please let me know if you find any of this useful.
Thanks!
