I have a lot of bulk dry goods. I have long dreamed of a gravity fed dispensing system. They are rather expensive. And from what I can tell they are all plastic. I had the thought of making some from
wood. What are peoples thoughts in using wood to store food? I have not researched it, but I assume it was done liberally in the past. Those pretty wooden barrels you see in movies. I’m thinking it would be fine, but wondering if anyone has done it? Any suggestions on a wood type? I was thinking hardwood is probably best. Also would you treat it? I’m thinking maybe just food grade mineral oil or something similar. Any foods you would not store in these?
I know this is not the perfect solution. Unlikely to be air tight. But I’m not overly concerned about that, as all my grains are whole, unground. I’m not storing food for the apocalypse. Just buy bulk for economy sake. It would also really save me some space in my current scenario.
Anyways, food stored in wood. What are your thoughts?
