The question "why not?" has always bugged me. It's as if I have to do a thing unless I lay out a convincing proof to the alternative path.

I suppose "why?" can be the same thing. Sometimes people ask "why" because they are hungry for knowledge. That doesn't bother me. The one that bothers me is when inflection suggests that there is no rational reason, so the "why?" will clearly go unanswered.

My knee jerk response to either "why?" or "why not?" presented as "there can be no good reason" is: "because I feel like it."

It is an emotional political philosophical religious decision that cannot be articulated and/or understood due to emotional political philosophical religious differences of the participants.

Usually "I feel like it" is the most honest answer. I usually go with "The little voices told me to"
