Thoughts on self fertile Pawpaw tree?

I’ve been looking to buy a pawpaw  tree online in the UK, I got this email stating that the specific they are offering are self  fertile, but within further investigation I find out that they are not usually self pollinating. These trees are from roots plants, are they just trying to get me to buy their products or will they actually still work even if I don’t have two trees?

Welcome to Permies!

Generally, Pawpaws are not self fertile but like many things in Permaculture... It  depends!

There are reported to be self fertilizing cultivars that exist, one that comes to mind is the "Sunflower" variety.

I do not have any pawpaw trees personally, but I'd be curious to see if they have a specific type that they offer.

Thanks Timothy, do you think this space is too small? If so what other fruit trees can grow there no problem? It’s 4ft from one tree to the hot lips

Trees from the same root stock are called clones. They will not cross pollinate.  However, trees from the same seeds will cross pollinate since there is some genetic diversity.
Kentucky State University has a Pawpaw section with a lot of guidance on how to grow and prepare Pawpaw.  If you can I recommend getting two and planting them 8 foot apart.
Planting that close to a foundation may cause problems.

i’ve increased my pollination by grafting a second variety on almost all my pawpaw trees.
