Off-grid 12V DC "hard-wired" smoke alarm

I'm working on an off-grid house with all 12V DC wiring. Does anybody have any tips on finding a 12V DC "hard-wired" smoke alarm? Building inspector is requiring that we have a "hard-wired" smoke alarm (as opposed to the kind that just has a little 9V battery). I wonder if anybody else working on an off-grid house has run into this problem? It would be a real disappointment to have to install an inverter just to run a smoke alarm.

my hard wired alarms still will run on battery. You could run them on a cheap $20 inverter for inspection, then run them on batteries if you want.

The important part of the hardwiring is they link the alarms so when one goes off, they all go off. In my house, you wouldn't hear one go off on the opposite end of the house if the doors are closed and the fans are running. Not sure if you would have that problem--how many alarms do you have to install?

Have you tried looking at an RV supplier for the 12v smoke detector?
