Pay back (sort of a community project)

This may or may not belong here, but it is sort of a "project".
I live in a semi-rural community with lots of family connections, it seems as if everyone is related. My family has lived in the community for 40+ years, but we don't share the family ties.
Every community seems to have that one or sometimes two people who lead in being the most helpful to others. The go-to guy when you need something. Usually someone with resources, tractor, back-hoe, welder, etc,
Well I'm not that guy.
In my neighborhood that guy is an 80 year old man who tends 50 or so cows everyday and afterwards, cuts firewood, picks loads of rocks out of his fields, saws lumber on a portable mill, makes hay or some other "farm" task.
Many people in the community, including me, lean on him when they need something.
To my point, the old guy is getting old and slowing down and I think he could use a little help. So, this winter, I've taken to getting my butt out of the house at daylight on weekends and helping him feed cows and horses.
I've begun to noticed how the neighbors, all of whom the old guy has helped over the years, stare as we go by. Could they be feeling a bit of guilt? I don't know. Maybe someone else will step up, give a little back, and lend him a hand.
Though when I started helping the old guy feed I did it to "pay him back" I have started thinking of it kind of in a community sense.
I know others are talking about it.
I've started to wonder if people will begin to resent me for maybe making them feel guilty. Well, so be it.
We'll see where it goes...

That's awesome what you're doing, I think you'll get more respect than anger. Those kind of examples seem to have a bit of a ripple effect.

Keep up the good work!

Josh,
You are correct. I am seeing a bit of ripple beggining. I've also increased my commitment.
