Hi all,

I'm looking to acquire a goat hide to tan myself. Let me know if anyone in South-East Queensland has any ideas about this. Would be happy to pay for it.

It's part of a project I have about making sustainable, local-scale footwear.

Regards,

Ask at the local vet or feed store for the name of someone who butchers their own animals.

Does it have to be a goat skin?

If you know any hunters a hide might be easier had especially this time of year.

Could be worth trying Packer's Tannery 40 km North of Brisbane - they may be convinced to sell you a hide before it goes into the processing plant.
They deal with 'roo, but I'd be surprised if they don't have goat from time to time.
If you can find a small abattoir that deals directly with homesteaders/hobby farmers that could be another source.

Thanks for the replies, Anne and Jill.

Anne, goat would be ideal, but deer or kangaroo would also be great. We don't have many deer around here, but kangaroo skins might be a possibility.

Jill, thanks for the tip - I'll try getting in touch with them.
