I live on Crete zone 10a and our summers are very hot and dry which = unhappy strawberries. I'm trying to figure out what I could do so they would have lots of light and sun exposure during the winter and spring when they're producing, and then maximum shade during the scorching summers. I need a dense overstory plant canopy to shade them that would only be there in the summer...any ideas?
I would recommend selecting a variety that is heat tolerant.
Plant them with morning sun and afternoon shade.
Make sure that the strawberries get watered and do not dry out for long periods of time.
