Climate Change

Climate Change.

Heh.

I try to discharge the political conversation around this subject, in my personal life, by pointing out that the relationship we have with the earth, and the things we can do to improve and sustain the health of our local ecosystems, remains unchanged whether the models are correct or not (they aren't).

It doesn't matter whether climate change is massively affected by human behavior, or not, because the same behaviors which can help to buffer our environments from extreme weather events are the same behaviors which produce the most bounty, the healthiest soils, the most robust systems, the cleanest air, the most stable regional climate patterns, and so forth.

Planting a garden, managing water and fertility, and working together with others in your community to improve the local ecology is what is right, and good, whether we're facing environmental instability or not.

Yes, you can say that adding a degree of urgency might make a difference, but I ask you to consider this:

How many people in your life need MORE things to be anxious about, to worry over, to feel the pseudo-impending doom of the aggregated worst case scenario weighing upon their souls?

0, I'll bet. Indeed, I'll wager 1000-to-1 that the majority of the people you know are overstressed, overwhelmed and/or paralyzed by uncertainty.

And, I'll bet they're also suffering from a much deeper entrenchment of unexamined ideas than ever before.

Help 'em reframe. Help them rebuild their Sensemaking Apparatus. Help them metamorphose from Manipulated Reactionary to Warrior in the Garden.

The right thing to do, the right way to interact with the world, remains unchanged by the vicissitudes of public discourse and the shifting patterns of the climate. You Garden Everything ™️, always, because it's the tautological basis for fractal functionality at the personal, local, regional national/cultural, and worldwide levels.

Is mankind drastically changing the climate? Yeah, it seems so. Is it going to be a disaster? Dunno, that's up to us, and what we do with the soil we can touch. If we want to deliver a message, it had better be rooted in deep , rich, healthy soil.

Otherwise, we're just like everybody else, full of hot air.

And, as we all know, Hot Air is the climate change we're most in need of remedying.

To put it more succinctly:

My point, as ever, is that the right approach to how you interact with the natural world remains unchanged by cultural or climatic shifts.

There are easy rules to follow, and they result in stability and bounty.

Don't follow them?

Everything goes to shit, ecologically and culturally. It's as straightforward as people-rules can get.
