Hi everyone,New guy here, first post.I'm looking to set my wood stove up threw my celing.from the top of the stove it's about 4.5-5 feet to celing. Can I use single wall stove pipe untill the celing thimble?then I'll use double wall threw attic space.that being said,I seen on Lowe's(iirc)website ,of a double wall telescopic pipe.description says, from 38"-68"....or am I taking it wrong.I'm interested in that pipe because I only have to go about 5'at the very most to get out of combustion zone.I'm not sure about the roof pitch,I'll figure that out for the flashing.then on top of double wall on roof,I'm thinking that it'll be a couple feet to be even wilth peak, could I use single wall again?I'm asking all this is because I just don't have $700+ to get all double wall from start to finish.I don't want to skimp on attic space.thanks all.

Damion Groper : Welcome to Permies.com, our sister site Richsoil.com, and a Big Welcome to The Rocket and Wood Stove Forum Threads !

So I went to Lowes online and I find listed exactly as you have it in your thread Double wall telescopic pipe adjustable 38'' - 68'' Item # 35015 , model #
DSP6TL - the picture is not definitive, We both should check for availability at our Home Stores and go see it !

Damned ! For that price it should be a double wall insulating adjustable stove pipe !

There is one issue here with the description as written (probably by a Lowes employee who never saw the pipe) Generally there are two types of 'finish'
on a high temperature stove pipe, Galvanized, and Black! Not black paint over galvanized, in this case, the manufacturers description is key !

When new Galvanized stove pipe is heated -there is a mechanical change in the way the galvanized coating (to retard rust inside and out!) adheres to the
steel pipe, during that change the pipe goes from silvery shiny to dull grey, While this change occurs some of the zinc coating is vaporized and this worries
some people I 'Temper' my stove pipe out of doors first to create this change as after you hit the dull grey state the mechanical bond is then finished
changing.

There is also a heavy wall black stovepipe that stands up to high exhaust gas temps very well, What a black painted Stovepipe is I can not even guess!

Yes you can use single wall pipe up to your ceiling and change there to get through the roof line. How you are going to attach the single wall onto your
Double wall pipe simple, use a short length of stove pipe say 8'' high use 4 screws to assist the matting, and then go up to at least the peak of the roof !

The stovepipe Should be located on the lee or down wind side of the house . Tat is the heating seasons winds should hit your house and then pass over
the peak of the roof to reach your stove pipe. Also as part of your ultimate plans plan on spending the money to go 4-5 feet above the peak of your roof,
you 'may' only need to go to the peak but budget the money for the higher point. Also using heavier ''Ts' with caps instead of adjustable elbows is
both a safety factor and an aid in cleaning your wood burner !

This description of how to vent your heater with stove pipe may not find favor with a Code Enforcement Officer, your homeowners insurance, or a landlords
protective eyes ! Good luck Big AL
