How to keep cows out without fence ?

Are you allowed to use a cattle prod to convince them to move along?

Hey, everyone.  I have a small parcel in NE Arizona as well, in the ranches.  I also have this annoying issue sometimes with cows coming on my property, without a fence.  I will be reading through all of the helpful comments.  I have cleared my land of vegetation, which helps somewhat.  I also have stretches of wood fence, and some natural fence with piled up branches, which work pretty well too.  

I have somewhat of a perimeter around my living area which they mostly stay out of, until I can fence in the immediate area with barbed wire.   They do scare fairly easily, and are mostly just think its a good place to hang out until they see me in the yard, they will go elsewhere. Also, they are more of an annoyance in the spring, because they are just more active, and kind of on a long journey through the land.

There is not much that can be done if folks live where there are open ranges.

Maybe planting a thick hedge of some thing thorny like blackberries.
