Could you share a little more background on the house? It's hard to focus on how the inside is set up(sorry). How much wood is needed to heat it? SF? materials list? what is the climate like, wet, dry(looks pretty dry)? how cold/hot does it get, the climate I mean?

Also, watched your vid on the shipping container house. I was at a horse camp where they made a real nice tack room/feed storage set up with a shipping container, also a roof was extended all the way around from that over straight stalls to feed the horses in, and a covered cement pad to work on a horse in the rain(say for shoeing). I thought it was a great little set up for a barn.  It wasn't hot inside, because of the doors, also a couple big holes were punched for fans to keep the air moving re flies.

This set up is at Cascades Camp in Yelm WA if you ever want to check it out. It's a church camp run by the Convenant Church.

I would guess that it is 8x16 or so. 

The climate is cold.  It probably gets down to 20 below most years and maybe 35 below once in a long while.  Fairly dry - although you can see cedar trees - and cedars require a fair bit of moisture.

I would guess that since it is so small it doesn't need much wood.

Are those windows double paned? what is the flooring? is it insulated in any way? vapor barrier? how is the roof constructed?

that's pretty cool!

now this is off topic, but just had to say and sorry if this sounds weird--you have an awesome voice, very nice to listen to!

As for my voice:  thanks!  I was on the radio in college!  A while back, somebody said that it was still my voice for some of the stuff at that station.

windows:  I would guess single paned.

insulation:  I would guess that there is none.

the roof:  that is gonna be covered thoroughly in mike's book.

ha! well then, no wonder--I would just listen to your radio station to hear your voice, it has a real nice peaceful quality to it.

ok, thanks for the book link/info! I wonder if Mike is the guy I saw one time in a PBS show--it was a guy that lived in the backwoods of Idaho, he was squating on public lands(I guess there are quite a few who do that?) he had built a house just about all out of windows, very similar to the one in the video. It was also earth bermed. The house was very cool, two story I think with a loft, like I said the construction was similar. I dont' know how to find that story though, it may have been Oregon Field GUide?

ALso, do you know the dude who built the little hobbit house, he also lives in a teepee--I'll see if I can find his webpage again.
