Pop Up Trailers

I want a trailer for moving leaves, manure, woodchips, etc.
Cruising Craigslist pop up trailers are bigger and cheaper than most offered.
Many flat trailers that have brakes and lights are converted pop up trailers.
So does anyone have any experience with pop up trailers?

We had one when I was a kid. Great for camping. I don't think that the axles are very heavy duty, you might want to check into the statistics on that.
Might be able to haul lighter loads but be certain about heavier loads.
I got an old, non running, pickup truck and took the front axle, engine, and cab off the frame and made a trailer out of it. If you have a local junk yard they might even do some of the work for you?

My dad and I made this little dump trailer with a a big bottle jack and a lever arm; the front pillar tilts back and forth to accommodate the bed tilting. It sure has saved me a lot of work over the years.

Really lightweight trailers, about the same as the harbor freight bolt together trailers but bigger. For leaves and mulch they will probably work, compost would overload it quick. You have to figure out how to scrap all the rest of the trailer if you are going to convert it.

I thought I should point out that this trailer was built "on the cheap" with a 1 ton axle assembly($100 from harbor freight) and the tubing is leftovers from industry, sold in bulk at scrap prices from metal mart. If you look close, you can see that some pieces are slightly different than others performing the same task! About $300 and some welding stick.

Thanks for the feedback, I may still do this, or I might get a boat trailer, with or without the boat, but that is another thread.

We converted a popup trailer into a chicken tractor. Not really something that can be moved by hand, but we have appropriate vehicles for towing it. We added 7' tall chicken run modular sections on to it so they have plenty of room. Most of the time though we let them free range.
