i'd like to plant some veggie or fruit plants along a fenceline that the chickens can get near... wondering if there is anything that would survive and not be eaten by the critters. was hoping for tomatoes or raspberries, but turns out that would be a lost cause.
any ideas?

I don't know of any they won't eat but I know some people use a small amount of fencing to protect specific plants at least until they are large enough that they won't be killed and eaten or for some plants the fence is permanent for the entire life cycle.
Even if the chickens don't eat the plant, they will scratch around the base. Their scratching can get quite vigorous to the point that they can uproot small plants, thus killing them.

It seems kind of random what plants they will destroy, i guess whatever has soil bugs near it that peak there interest maybe? For instance i planted some onions back in the chicken yard and they knocked down and killed each one. Didnt eat it, just killed it. But This year i have a good amount of onions in the exact same spot and the chickens havent bothered them. Not really any notable difference they just werent interested this year.
Alot of tree or bush type plants would work if you protected them during their initial growth. Otherwise i have had cilantro plants survive chickens, or a lot of other herbs they dont prefer.
