It is a thriving complex of winding hugels that create courtyards filled with permanent raised beds. The hugels are stocked with perennial and self-seeding annual plants. The hugel courtyard, featuring over 1 kilometers of 6’ hugels, is sub-irrigated by surrounding ponds. The Project was designed by Sepp Holzer in May 2012. Katharina Hirsch who purchased the land and started the project, feels her role as steward is complete and is ready to let her inspirations take her on a new path and wants to offer this one of a kind creation to the permaculture community. The gardens and hugels are cultivated and managed by Michael Billington through Nourinshing Roots Farms.
(Michael worked directly with Sepp Holzer in the creation of this ecologic wonderworld and has been developing and managing the gardens since 2012. He is available to help to acclimate the new owners to the many nuances and complexities of this regenerating landscape. Additionally he is open to discussing long term collaboration.
