Red potting soil, and very light stones. What are these? (pics)

Hello,

Does anyone know what these are?

The stones are very light. The whole bucket of them weighs almost nothing.

The other picture is red potting soil. It's probably too vague to determine exactly.

Both come from a flower shop dumpster.

They are known as expanded clay - essentially a man made porous rock. Good for soil aeration and water retention.

Red potting soil? Is it fluffy? If so it could be, peat moss,cocoa duff or coconut coir.By the color and texture it looks like coconut coir.

We can green the world through random acts of planting.

Mediterranean climate, hugel trenches, fabulous clay soil high in nutrients, self-watering containers with hugel layers, keyhole composting with low hugel raised beds, thick Back to Eden Wood chips mulch (distinguished from Bark chips), using as many native plants as possible....all drought tolerant.
