Astragalus inoculant for seeds?????

Hi all

just wondering if anyone in oz has germinated Astragalus with or without legume inoculant. If so which one.

also if someone has mature plants that have nodulated well could i buy some of your soil for inoculation???

You might talk to your Agricultural Universities near you.   I got Rhizobia free in exchange for sending them soil samples collected a specific way bi-monthly.  The only variety that nodulated for me was Dragon Milkvetch in 2014 and then only 1 plant in the soil treated by Rhizobia.  The same plants in the same soil on either side of it did not nodulate.   I planted Huang qi with soil I obtained from a Chinese grocery in St. Louis Missouri but it died of crown rot in 2015   I will try Huanq qi again in 2017.

So my only success, though moderate, was from the inoculate that I obtained from my local University.

I grew astragalus (astragalus membranaceus from Richters) from seed without inoculation.  As I remember the seeds germinated fine in a flat and then transplanted to small pots, I think I tried a little sandpaper on a handful of seeds and that might have helped.  I planted andrographis at the same time so I'm not sure which I did that too but it was whatever the packet said...

I have two big pots full of wintered over plants outside (two years) big tall plants and they are flowering now.  All of the small plants that I set out to make it on their own did not survive. I didn't have any luck planting seed straight into the ground either.
I plan to plant these in the ground now that they are bigger.

I'm hoping for some seed from these before a freeze...I think there's time.
