Bench in basement, Rocket above ground?

Is it possible to generate enough push in an above ground rocket riser, to drive the heat down to a thermal mass in a basement? Of course the exhaust still needs to exit above grade.

Has anyone tried this? Let me know if you've had success. I'm not interested in quick radiant heat, but rather, store as much heat as possible in the mass. I'd hope to insulate the riser, and downer if possible since I'd rather have the combustion unit just outside of the foundation.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you.....I'd like to know the same thing.  I want to go "downward" with my exhaust pipe, and wondering if there will be a "draw" issue if you do?  Hoping someone replies to us both!

i don't know the answer - but after the proposed downward run, are you planning to exhaust at a higher level than the fire box? 

My gut tells me this is going to be difficult.  It might be possible with a fan to assist the start of the process, but you may find it challenging to beat physics.  Many designs I see actually specify a slight upward pitch of the entire "in-bench" portion of the flue.

I'd worry that the system would want to naturally run backwards - i.e fire and smoke blazing out of the wood-feed hole.

It's a matter of ratios and resistance. If you make the insulated heat riser taller, and dump more heat out through the cowling (barrel) you can push warm exhaust down further than you would otherwise be able to.
