Former military starting a homestead

Hello everybody,

So our lives took an unexpected turn a couple years back when Jeremy got really sick and because of that is being released from the military as he is no longer deployable. Anyways, we bought 70 acres of land in Eastern Canada and are going to be sharing our journey to start a homestead on it from scratch. We plan on building a sugar shack for maple syrup and harvesting blueberries as two of the primary things we will be doing there. Looking forward to connecting with new people. Glad to be here.

Tough folks. Good approach generally with the Moneyball. It is hard because the game is always changing! But human history is all about exploiting resources, and we are trying to exploit them in a way that is regenerative.

I'm new here too. I'm also have land in eastern Ontario.... North of Kingston. It is 10 acres. Not sure how far that is from you. But for right now I live and work in Toronto. Love the videos you have a nice family and you guys have made a lot of progress in such a short time. Congrats! Mapleberry is a very cool name and the moneyball concept is good. I know little about baseball so thanks for explaining that in the video :) I also really liked what you said about 10% is the things that happen to you and 90% is how you react and deal with it. Good luck with your maple trees next year I will try and tap mine for the first time too. I have two old trees I am going to try.

Welcome to you too :). I had a place just north of Napanee a few years back but Mapleberry Farm is in New Brunswick. I am still on base at CFB Trenton awaiting my release from the military though. I will definitely check out your log as well!

Thank you for the kind words :). We thought that Mapleberry was a fitting name for the property considering the maples and blueberries both being there, we love it. I feel like moneyball is pretty much what homesteaders do anyways after I thought about it a bit haha. I truly believe the 10% / 90% thing also!

Good luck with your maples, its been a couple years since I made any syrup myself so hopefully all goes well on my end too :).
