Looking for land ontario

Hi there I am looking for tips on how to acquire land in ontario I am looking for 10+ acres between orillia and huntsville area but have nothing for a down payment I am willing to trade work carpentry and construction skills and knowledge but struggle to find any leads I just want to build a small cabin where my family and I can live self sufficienctly and help and advise appreciated

Dignam has rural land with low down payment and monthly payments. I have no personal experience with them however.

have a 159 acres with a 2 or 3 bedrm cottage with drilled well, small solar and wind generator and propane hook up for fridge and stove  Also a wood stove for heating. This property is in a non-organized township, completely surrounded by crown land. 3 kms offI township road.  If you want to truly "farm naturally" hopefully own the land, live off-the-grid , have community and so forth then I think this could be the opportunity for you. It will not be easily, with hard work it can be done. You can start now and you are welcome to buy into the property anytime when you feel you have the means. Hendrik, what type of person are you looking for in this endeavour? Also, where are you?

I ask because my girlfriend is expressing the feeling that living in a city is making her less happy. I feel that, myself, and so if there was a possibility of that, I would jump on it.

My main issue is that I currently work for the Peel District School Board. It is a good, unionized, pensioned job, and until I am ready to make my living off of the land, it is my best choice to acquire and begin development on that land.

My girlfriend is a glassblower. We eventually want to have a hotshop, and I want to use the heat exhaust for a number of projects, including a permaculturally designed four-season hothouse suitable for full-sized trees, and a ground-source heat pump that will probably extend the season on my zone 1 beyond any possibility of frost.

I have a number of more basic permacultural interests, including soil building and composting, forests, pasture, beekeeping, animals in a variety of sizes, and growing anything I can derive something from, even satisfaction and bee forage. At the moment, I am teaching myself how to make beer and cheese (in separate processes, I'm no wizard).

I would love to keep bees, chickens, dairy goats, and some kind of fibre ruminant. My girlfriend's mom wants alpacas, and if the climate and situation lent itself to them, I would do that in a second. A couple of sows, probably a bacon breed, would do well, but that would depend on access to mast-producing forage and orchard products. I also want to grow a food forest system alley cropped with perennial pasture, a jackpine/chanterelle shelter belt, an aquacultural pond system (potentially using salmon, but I would settle for trout), and if possible, I want to build a WOFATI design using some combination of earth building techniques (rammed earth, earthbag, or compressed earth block) for the wall and pillar structure that will hold a split log ceiling and enough earth above the membrane that I can grow at least pasture, but hopefully forest, atop my house.

I would love it if a contact through permies was the in I needed to get access to land I could eventually own, along with all the benefits of like-minded community. And if it could happen sooner rather than later, well my girlfriend would be overjoyed to have a place to go to for now to escape the city.

I have selected a number of my more out-there ideas. Please give us more info. It would be such an amazing thing to find a land opportunity in commuting distance from my work.

I am sorry that I forgot to put in the property location. The property is an hour west of Thunder Bay, half an hour west of Kakabeka Falls. The trees rights, surface rights and  minerals rights all belongs with the property. There is a large pond on the property which can be expanded.  Yes, you and your girlfriend would be welcome, although I think this property is to far out for you. I am not on this property yet either. Right now I am in the Ottawa-Cornwall area.

I happen to live in Thunder Bay, and can say with confidence that an hour West from here is indeed remote. Remote enough that you may actually be cut off during the winter due to snow. The winters are very cold, but sunny. The summers are bug infested, but beautiful.

For folks looking to get right off grid, like 1800's off grid, and yet have modern facilities an hours drive away for 8 months of the year then it would be awesome. I don't think you can find cleaner water and air. There is a small permaculture presence here, and there is a vast area of unexplored permaculture things related to extremely cold climates. The city (100K people) is the medical hub of the region, there is a university, a college, an agriculture research facility, an airport, and a lot of industrial infrastructure that supports the mills, the mines, and forestry.

There are wolves and bears, but no grizzlies or very many Sasquatch so it's a relatively friendly ecosystem. And I don't actually know if there are any poisonous snakes.
