A lot of you helped us with the digital market gift stuff a few months ago.  And now we have added oodles of polish to our systems.    Some interesting improvements:

DMG001:  you can give a gift as a URL.   Send to the recipient via email or fbook or whatever.
DMG002:  easier to purchase when not logged in.   In fact, we seriously overhauled all of our login stuff.

To activate the gift stuff, it should all be the same as last time:

For the next couple of days, I have made the following stuff just a buck for the sake of testing.

permaculture playing cards as an ebook

21 podcast review of sepp holzer's permaculture

PDC evening presentation with Helen Atthowe

If the tests are successful, I am hoping that people will give gifts of:

All 8 of the Rocket Mass Heater DVDs as HD instant View

177 hours of Permaculture Design Course and Appropriate Technology Course

Please share the results in this thread.

Added to DMG001, when you buy something as a gift, it should show up in your ledger as a gift with the current status indicating if someone has accepted it or not.

I was going to buy the playing cards e-book as a gift but since I've already bought it for myself all I get is the link to download without payment.  Is there a way to get around that?

If you go to that thread and scroll down, you should see a "buy this as a gift" link:

Do you not see it?

Nope.  I'm using the link above for the ebook permaculture cards  that takes me to this page https://permies.com/wiki/63393/digital-market/digital-market/permaculture-playing-cards-book-download and what I see is this

I guess you need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page (but above the similar threads list).

The "buy this as gift" link is just above the "Boost this thread" button. Can you spot that button?

I got it now...I was scrolling down but only through the comments.
That is subtle but I see that is what was pictured in the very first post...just missed it.

thanks Devaka

I understand that one would need to be logged in to open the link.  That link above still showed me as logged in.  Does my husband need to be logged in with that email in order to open?

and for the ebook will my son need an account and be logged in in order to see it?  I thought it was a downloadable ebook that can be saved on a flash drive, etc. separately from the forums?

I'm feeling more confused right now...need more coffee.

You seem to have selected the email option when sending the gift.
So, your husband needs to be logged in (or create a new account... or add as a secondary email) with the email address you entered.

If you had chosen the 'link' option, whoever accesses that link (only one person) will get the access.

I've since read the 'gir bot' message that is sent with the gift more thoroughly...got it.  I think.
I didn't understand the 'link' option.

It's probably the simplest option
You select the "Generate a shareable URL" option, make a payment, and you will be provided with a shareable link. Then you share this link with the person who you want to give this gift to. Just that! The other person will need to be logged in or signed up with any permies account.

I hope it's alright, I've sent the link option for the ebook to my son also...he can let me know how it works.

So, either option, one needs to have an account with that email and be signed in.

Is access limited to a time period or number of times opened, etc?

Nope. They get the same kind of access you get when you buy it directly for yourself; So, no, the access is forever.

Can somebody upload a series of screen shots so I can see.   I can't do it because the paypal account is my paypal account.

This is what appeared when I clicked the ebook link (because I bought it in the past)

I didn't understand to scroll to the bottom for this gift button as Devaka later pointed out.

I was able to send as a gift email then.
I later sent it also as a 'url' gift to the same receiver and haven't heard back how either one worked although I got an email that said what was sent and said.

When selecting Helen's link it opened to this (I never bought this one previously)

I sent as a 'gift' email to our other email address here so I could check on it and when I opened that link in our other email address I was still signed in as usual but with my permies email address and this is what appeared.

I understand, I think, that when sent as an email gift the receiver must sign into permies using that email tied to their account?
and when the gift is sent as a 'url' the receiver must have an account and be logged in but not necessarily tied to the email address where they received the gift?

The issue in the end was just me not understanding the procedure...nothing glitchy in the system that I noticed.

I hope this makes some sense as I'm feeling muddled again after writing this post

I would like to see the screen where a person buys it as gift, but they are not logged in and they have not purchased it for themselves.  It should offer two things:

1:   here is the link (you can email it, or write it in a card or slip of paper or whatever)

2:   tell us their email address and we will send them the link and you can be anonymous if you want
