I was taking a little walk around the property this evening trying to identify a few plants and came across this weird thing. I can’t seem to find anything the looks close on google. If it’s a new plant, do I get to name it!!??!!?
I think they are gooseberries. Once they are ripe you can eat the berry inside. But, just in case I am wrong look them up and see if the rest of the plant looks like the gooseberry plant.
I’ll double check the plant in the morning. The leaves don’t look like gooseberry, but potentially the berries were growing among another plant and I didn’t notice.
It is indeed a gall!! I went back and only found the ones pictured, no others on the plans so I snagged the branch and dissected them with my kids. Here’s what we found inside. Gall are very interesting! Thanks for the info!
Dang, I was hoping for you it would be something good. Don't think you want to take a bite of that. Yikes! I really like gooseberrys , but I have never had the ones with the little spikes. Maybe there will be something good on your next hike.
