Some people have software. I tried. Some have a piece of paper. I tried that too. I also tried all different types of plant labels. Nothing was specific
enough yet fast enough. After a while, I designed a system I find very effective.
I have a plain text document in my phone. In it I can use emojis. Very crucial.
I list the bed name and size. Under that heading I list my expected rotation. I.E.:
Bed 1 2x6
1. Broccoli
2. Radish
3. Tomatoes
4. Beets
As the season goes on I use emojis to describe the status. A seed emoji means it's seeded. A check mark means it's established. A smiley means I'm happy with the growth, etc. If necessary, I will make a comment.
Like: 2. potatoes ๐ฐmoles ๐โ rep: basil ๐ฐ๐ฑ
Which means I originally planted potatoes, nut the
moles got to them. I was disappointed by the resultant potato growth and after giving it time to recover, called it crop failure. I then replanted the area with basil, which has started growing.
By the end of the year, I have a full record of the happenings of the growing season and can read it quickly and without going to a special place or to specialty equipment to find it. I also don't need to label the crops in the beds. All my beds are descriptive names too so I can remember what I meant.
