Our guineas roost in trees or on fences - the height doesn't seem to matter to them, they just wanna be up off the ground. The advice to give them a space to launch at the roost and a space to safely land is really good advice. I've seen really effective guinea "houses" that are more long than wide and have the roosts about halfway up between the floor and the ceiling all the way at one end. They light up from the ground and then settle on the roost, so some head space is good.
They are all about the habits, so if you naturalize them to the pen when they are young, ply them with treats while they are getting bigger, and put some yummies in there during dusk once you let them free range, they will come back at night. Until they don't. Guineas have taught me to relinquish control. Over everything.
We let ours free range so they can eat the ticks and fleas and other nasties that plague the yard around the house. But with 22, whooo-boy. That would be quite a herd. A very boisterous herd. Now I kinda wanna get that many. Have fun!
