French dip sandwhiches tonight for dinner! Another beautiful elk roast, plus homeade French fries. The buns and cheese weren't local.
I didnt serve a veggie. Thats not like me, but my family has experienced a lot of loss lately. One of my kids' teachers passed away over the weekend. I made comfort food. Nice to know it can still be local.

This morning's breakfast was biscuits and gravy!! Local wheat, deer tallow (cut with lard, since its strong flavor is too intense) deer sausage in the homeade gravy, made with the same flour and local milk.

200cal per biscuit for 11 of them: 2200cal
1120cal for 4 cups of country gravy.
6 plates.

This is a yummy lunch of taco salad. Both chicken and venison, for my picky eaters.
1 lb deer meat is 500cal,
2lbs chicken is 1,090cal,
Sautéed peppers and onions (from my greenhouse, using elk tallow) 300cal
Salad including local lettuce and my garden tomatoes. 500cal.
The seasonings and chips served with the salads were not local.
About 5 plates.

This was supposed to be egg drop soup again, but I stirred it too fast. And used too many eggs I guess. I used a lot of green onions from my herb garden.
A little more than half a gallon is woth 900calories or so. It fed my whole family!

I also made cupcakes for dessert, using local flour, milk and eggs. Not sugar or frosting, tho. And! My kids come in to steal them before I can even get frosting on them! The pirates... 280caloroes each is 1960.
2800caloroes this post is 5 plates.

I made homeade tortillas to go with it. 110cal per tortilla, times 10 is 1100cal.
I grew cabbages that are finally ready, and made a wonderful Pico de gallo. 200cal
2800cal is 5 plates.

Its the prettiest day of the week. I love that its warm enough for all my kids and nieces and nephews to play outside while I prepare a MARVELLOUS Thanksgiving dinner. 😁

Yesterday I made rolls, pie, and fruit salad from local ingredients. Local flour, eggs, milk, cream, canned fruit (plus half a pineapple and a grapefruit).

Today, I roasted a B-E-A-UTIFUL turkey, which I raised. Its been brining for 3 days. Today it was dried and rubbed down with butter and spices.

I peeled 30 darn potatoes, local, of course. Loaded with local cream and milk.

Finally, I whipped cream with a little powdered sugar. The sugar and vanilla weren't local.

So much fruit I preserved this year! These pears, nectarines, and cherries were all grown by me. I added half a pineapple and a grapefruit also. But think its quaint how much of this dish I could produce myself!!

1,200 cal estimate.
30,000 calories for a roasted turkey!
3,000cal for cream.
30 taters times 150cal each, plus cream and milk is 6,000calories.
I also made gravy out of the nibbles, plus cream and flour. 2400calories
42,600 calories. Is 85 plates.

I could have finished this BB a few weeks ago. But I thought it a fitting capstone to prepare this holiday spread of amazing local food for Thanksgiving! I served all this bounty to 17 people. Many of them brought delightful side dishes (not pictured), but I made 100 "plates" worth of food myself. What a feast!

All in all, there's 886 mostly local plates pictured in this thread. And after preserving 1 million calories this year as well, I'm sure there will be many more ahead! Thanks for joining me on this journey!
