Greetings from southwest Michigan!

We just moved here from another state. I guess we're in the midwest up here, althought it's also called the "Great Lakes Region".

Anywho, I'm looking forward to learning a lot in these forums.

Thanks for the reply, and, nice to meet you.

I work from home, so I can move anywhere in the country that I want to. That's a nice freedom that I know a lot of people don't have, so I do treasure it and try to make the most of it.

We chose this area because we have some good friends here and got a good deal on a home purchase. We're in a neighborhood, so we won't be doing any large or medium scale farming, at least, not on our property. But, my friend just moved to 7 acres and we can grow things there.

I do have big plans for the back yard, but, my eyes are often bigger than my hands, so I need to take it one step at a time.

I've wanted to cultivate and grow things for years. I've wanted to work with land for years. I've read a fair amount over the years. But, either due to fear, apprehension or laziness, I haven't done it. I'm not getting younger, so, I just need to do it.

The first thing I did two weeks ago was start a worm bin. Got lots of compost rotting in there right now, just need to add the worms before the mold overtakes it.

Oh, so very much to learn!

I love St. Joseph. My ex and I had a house on Lake Blvd for almost 20 years. Ex and house are gone. The ground here is good for about anything to grow. Water is usually easy too.

I do miss my beach. My dogs and I lived at the beach year round. Walking and running around down there. Why dont you give yourself some grapes? Its perfect for grapes in St. Joseph.

Yes, great idea, I should get a few vines planted in the backyard. I have several friends who make wine so we can learn to do that too!

Hello! My wife and I just started a CSA here in South Haven, MI. Lived in Niles, Vandalia and Edwardsburg before moving up here about 5 years ago. nice to see others from the area on the board, don't typically get locals on forums

There are some PC-minded folks with an e-mail list and semi-monthly meetings (during the non-frozen months), we're calling it Van-Kal Permaculture. Glad to see more people in the region! I'm in Lawton and there are a few here, some in Bangor, several in Fenville, people in Kalamazoo, and others spread out here and there. I've made some good contacts through the local Conservation District's programs, the local Transition Towns movement, the Kzoo Wild Ones chapter, a local nature studies group called ACORN, and more.
