I am just a few minutes away from sending this out.  I thought I would try a new thing and give a thread for people to comment on the monthlyish and ask questions and stuff.  

Here is the message I am about to send:

celebrating the genius of Mike Oehler

Mike Oehler's designs are genius.  When people talk about possibly building an Oehler structure, I emphasize that they MUST watch Mike's DVD #2 to get a thorough understanding of the roof design - that is key.  

Mike sold the 3-DVD set for $99 for over a decade.   Eventually, I convinced him to offer an e-package on permies for the 3 DVDs as streaming and both of his books on design (The $50 and Up Underground House Book, and The Earth Sheltered Solar Greenhouse Book) as PDFs.  He threw in the PDF versions of two workbooks that go with the workshop.

Many years after Mike's passing, Mike's niece now has a new offer as part of our PIE program:  The 3 movies as streaming and the 4 PDFs, as a bundle, for $35.

The PIE program is $3 for a month, which provides a list of bonus features, access to the PIE only forum, free stuff and vendor deals - like this thing with Mike's books and movies.  And if there is a permies post that is helpful to you, you can reward that post with PIE!  PIE is the primary way to show support for everything you get from the permies.com community.   It is the primary way we pay all of our server bills!

It got me to buy the Mike Oehler dvd's plus book package, and I'm really glad I did.  I now feel like I can actually do this.  It's not just me wishful-thinking, it sounds practical and manageable.  It demystifies so many things that had seemed out of reach.

I was in the process of trying to get a gasp on berm/wofati building, but hadn't gotten past the "I think I'm crazy to think I could actually do this" point.  I hadn't yet bought any book or resource, I had only read threads.

I hope someday to have a video tutorial on building a wofati A-Z!  (That there's a quarry just up the road from the land I'm looking at doesn't bode well for going _underground_, more of a wofati situation.)

As far as motivating me to buy pie, I probably should have bought pie first and then gotten the dvd's, but I wasn't sure if I already have pie.  I am really bad at remembering how pie and apples and all of that works, so rather than figure it out I just paid the full $55 price it showed me and I figure all the money goes to a good cause either way.

So that's my feedback about the monthly-ish--it made a difference for me to see the Oehler videos vs. just read about it!
