I'm looking at possible photo editing software and I stumbled on Capture One

I see a lot of people talk about this as a viable alternative to adobe.  I'm thinking I'll try the free 30 day trial when I have some spare time and I'm wondering if this is the software for me.

They have two options.  Subscription or buying it outright.  The one time buy has limited upgrades, but not version upgrades.  But the subscription bypasses the cost of the one-time buy in only 14 months.

I can't tell if it's cloud-based or if it works offline.  It looks like there are a lot of tutorials on their website, so I'm going to start watching those before I make any decisions.

I use Gimp, which I like, but I was curious about Capture One. It looks incredibly intuitive (which Gimp is not). It appears to work with RAW files. Only? If you decide to try it, I'll be curious as to what you think.

I think Gimp is more powerful and can do more kinds of editing than Capture one.

Chapter One looks like a RAW file editor.

I'm enjoying the tutorials they have and trying to read as many as I can before I try the month-long free trial.  https://learn.captureone.com/

I probably couldn't use it because I don't use Windows or Mac. But it has got me interested in RAW format photographs--something I was rather clueless about before. But Gimp can handle RAW. which is good. However, it looks like I'd need to get a new camera (poor me, lol), one that can create RAW files.

Capture One is definitely a good choice, I once used it and it helped a lot. However, I prefer free editing tools like GIMP and Darktable.

Darktable is the raw processor/editor I use (with GIMP for the stuff Darktable can't handle) . After trying a few, I found I preferred Darktable.

There is more photo editors here: https://www.xp-pen.com/forum-1790.html , you can find the most suitable.
