I am planning to replace all my conventional toilets with composting toilets. I want to use homemade designs but my issue is one of the toilets will be consistently used by small children. Is there anyone here that knows a kid friendly design for a composting toilet that reduces risk of being able to access the contents if they do as all children like to do?

Wecome to Permies Kevin! I was going to tell you about the composting toilet that friends of mine had, along with two small children, but then I read your last sentence. Certainly Adam's design wouldn't have stopped that issue. For me, my kids never showed any inclination in that direction, but I don't doubt your concern is real.

Off the top of my head, something along the lines of the "Wheelie bin pooper" where the drop is sufficient that little arms can't reach would do the job.

I've also heard that little kids get the pass so far as urine diversion is concerned, so you need a system that can handle both (usually that means you need a good source of "browns" to balance the extra nitrogen.)

There will be plenty of time to discuss your objections when and if you return. The cargo is this tiny ad:
