My goal here is to try to focus on the "education" side of the problem and hopefully people will post ideas that worked for them.
My personal problem - my husband has the "easy plumbing" so we're already getting him to divert his urine out of our septic system. At first I used the "I need it to get the mulch pile to decompose", and the "I can't do it easily because everything I try tends to make a mess" (which was the truth at the time, but I'm thinking I need to try one of those "women's" plastic pee tools which I didn't know about at the time). He convinced himself of the benefits after the first couple of months when he recognized how much water he was saving.
My early 20's son just isn't convinced - and he's always sat down to urinate which is atypical, but was encouraged when he was younger as it made a *lot* less mess.
So if people have experiences which helped them over-come the inertia of "we've got a working toilet and a perfectly good septic bed - why change", please share them!
