This company (which is awesome) just came up with a formulation for a natural varnish made from all food-grade ingredients:

I put this under art, but it would certainly fit under woodworking, too.

They have many other wonderful things also, including beautiful natural pigments.

I wish they would tell what is in it.  I'm naturally skeptical of products like this if they don't disclose the ingredients.

That looks amazing.  I have been looking for an alternative to solvent heavy varnish for my oil paintings.

It's been a few years, but I wasn't able to find reviews for it on Youtube yet.  It could be i searched wrong.  Anyone find anything?

It also doesn't say which of the three functions of varnish it performs.  In fine art oil painting, varnish ...
1. Evens out gloss
2. Protects the paint layer from damage from light and dust
3. Is easily removed without harming the paint layer every few years for cleaning.

I would love to learn more about this.  If it works, it would solve the biggest problem of painting truely toxic free.

Found the safety data sheet. There are still unanswered questions.

If I remember right, this is the company that was careful with their ingredient information on their solvent for oil painting.   As an artist, it's important to me to know what's in the stuff I use as it can influence the life of the painting, the life of the artist (they talk a lot about soy based, but now how it's processed), and how I dispose of the waste.  I wish they could give more info.

this is supposed to be a surprise, but it smells like a tiny ad:
