is new above the "workshops", it says "all workshop posts are automatically given $250 of thread boost at no charge".

As nonative speakers we're unable to translate this. Who can help/explain?

It's a way of advertising a thread to get more views and googlelove.  You can find the "thread boost" button at the bottom of every thread.
