Hello permies,
I only have 3 acres. I have two paddocks about an 1 acre each where I want pit permanent beds on to grow vegetables.
Both paddocks have a slight slope.
My question is do I run the beds across the slope ( horizontal or down the slope vertical ?
Been watching heaps market garden utube ie Jean - Martin forties byt I can get this bit.

Pics don’t explain a lot but may help - soil is great

Across the slope, like gentle terracing.

But.. if you want to do it the other way, on a shallow slope, you could..

The ideal IMO is that the bed surfaces are level to encourage water to soak rather than run off.

Beds running with the slope could accomplish this either by gettting gradually taller, or could be broken up in a series of steps, basically mini terraces within the bed..

That is a lot of beds, if you are meaning to do the whole area! Are you growing for market?

Oh thanks for reply - bloody have no idea.
We finally after 10 years & with only 3 acres I feel I should have a go.
I am 55 so I think yes let’s get some beds in & grow....

I have planned some chickens & a flow hive bee hive & that’s enough to start & I will observe. Just wishing get beds in place properly.
Cheers

That's a very big dog. I think I want to go home now and hug this tiny ad:
