Homestead HELP!

Hi my name is Ana and i am looking to homestead in Okanogan County, Washington...I think. My husband and I have been looking into this for over a decade but I cant seem to find ANYTHING on land locations in northern Washington state. Can ANYONE please help me find land that is available for homesteading? We have a family of 7 and are trying to find maybe a lot for my husband and I and maybe a lot for the kids. To my understanding each family member over 18, as long as they reside for 5 years and build a home with in a year with a max of 160(?) acres per member, I also saw something that said 40 acres for married and 60 acres per member, WA State will sign over deed, but I am in desperate need of some assistance finding the areas. And obviously in need of some of clarification.

Are you looking to purchase land in Washington to homestead or looking for free land that the state has for homesteading?
